Funding
This project is funded through NGI0 Commons Fund, a fund established by NLnet with financial support from the European Commission’s Next Generation Internet program.
We are very grateful to the NLnet team for their support, and we encourage you to apply and get funded to build your own project! 🚀 Learn more at the NLnet project page.
Rechargeable Battery System Projects
OpenBatt builds open-source rechargable battery system projects — hardware, firmware, and docs, all free.
OpenBMS
Our main project is an open-source battery management system for 2 to 7-cell Li-Ion and Li-Po packs. It handles fuel gauging, cell balancing, learning algorithms, overcharge/overdischarge/overheat protection, and communication with chargers and microcontrollers.
OpenBMS Load
A companion resistive load board designed for testing the BMS through full charge and discharge cycles. It supports up to 600W of power dissipation, adjustable load current, fan cooling with speed control, and a three-way switch to select charge, discharge or idle mode.

About OpenBatt
We are a few engineers who love making battery projects and can’t believe how complicated, expensive, and proprietary they become. It doesn’t have to be rocket science, right?
What Is This About?
Open source embedded electronics projects for rechargeable batteries. Schematics, firmware, docs — all free, all open, all yours. Use it, break it, improve it, ship it in your project. We genuinely don’t mind.
